Why I made it: Ever since I was young (13 or 14) I have wanted to have my own Sailor Fuku!
Sailor Moon was my third Anime (introduced to me by Angela - Star_Angel - when I went to visit her). I love how absolutely cute the outfits are, and I love Haruka's personality! She's so freaking badass!
Of the outer scouts I think Haruka fits my look and personality best, as well as my height. I'm tallish, so I figured she would be the best senshi to start out with.

How I made it: I used a thick spandex blend - the thickest I could find - to make the leotard, then I sewed on a tube of the same fabric to form a sort of v in the front. That's where I stopped. I put the costume away for about six months because I couldn't get the skirt to work the way I wanted it to.
Six months (and a lot of patience) later I took up the costume again when I found the perfect colour of blue polyester on the dollar a yard table. For the skirt I pleated it (with an iron) and serged it to the tube I had sewed on. Then I hand stitched another stuffed tube of fabric over the edges for the puff at the waist. I ruched the top of the leotard to give it a v- neck then I set about making the top part of the costume. The sailor collar has ribbon sewed onto it, and the pattern was a simple t-shirt type thing that I draped on my dress dummy. I added elastic around the bottom and sleeves then attached the sailor collar on.
The sleeves were very difficult and I finally decided on a clear vinyl for the sheer part at the end. I sewed through my thumb in this process but sacrifices must be made. The gloves and boots were purchased and the puffs on the gloves were hand sewn.

Likes: I love that I made it in two pieces with no zippers. I also love that it is leotard style so there aren't any unwanted panty shots. I also love how the boots make my legs look good.

Dislikes: It is short.. Anime short. I wanted to make it accurate, so the shortness was necessary.
