Sesshoumaru

Character Name: Sesshoumaru

Source: Inuyasha

Total Cost: around 300 USD

Time Consumed: 80+ hours (really I have no clue so I make up these numbers).

Why I made it: I always liked Sesshoumaru's style. He was definitely the less annoying of the two brothers too. I had planned on doing that costume since forever so when I finially buckled down to do it I was quite happy. The other thing that decided me to finally do it was finding contacts and ears for it at Dragon Con last year.

How I made it: The ears and contacts were purchased.. and there is where the easiness stops. The wig was a white wig with no bangs that I sewed a piece onto to give it bangs without detracting from the thickness of the original wig. I put white makeup around my hairline in order to keep the red of my hair at the time from showing.

The kimono and hakama and under kimono are all entirely made of silk. The outer kimono and hakama are dupioni with lining of habotai and the inner kimono is noil lined with habotai. The design is hand painted with silk dye-paint for the red and white fabric paint for the white. In all I used about thirty yards of silk on this one give or take a few. The armor was an interesting experiment. The inside was cut out of polystyrene and craft foam was put inside of that. Then I proceeded to cover the outside with vinyl. The spikes are metal claw spikes screwed into the armor and the armor pieces are tied together. Snaps would have detracted from the costume in my opinion due to the time period the costume is supposed to be from. (God I'm psycho sometimes).

Likes: I like that it's entirely silk. I also like the fact that the spikes on the armor are real metal

Dislikes: Wearing the costume. This was the first costume with theatrical contacts I did, so my eyes hurt wearing it and it was hot and uncomfortable and I kept having to tell people to be careful when glomping (I didn't want them impaled on my spikes).
