Yuumura Kirika

Character Name: Yuumura Kirika (new)

Source: Noir (Anime)

Total Cost: 30 USD

Time Consumed: 10 Hours (counting searching and dying and redying fabric)

Why I made it: I wanted something quick to make that was from an anime for Animazement 2006.
After searching through a zillion other costumes I finally decided on Kirika because Reanna was doing Mirielle. Kirika was always my favourite out of the duo, I just don't see myself as the type to do this cosplay. It's all in fun though ^_^.

How I made it: This was a very simple costume all in all. The top was difficult because I had so much trouble finding the perfect colour of blue for it. All the fabric at Jo Ann's and at Les Fabriques was too turquoise or too dark or too light, and when I tried dying some fabric it had too much polyester and wouldn't take the dye. Finally I found a t-shirt at T.J. Maxx that I was able to cut up and then sew into the top that you see here. The skirt was easy I took a dark blue denim skirt that I bought and simply shortened the hemline. This was also the first time I had ever altered shoes for a costume! I first tried the upholstery spray that you get at the auto supply store.. but that just cracked on leather. So I then got a pair of canvas shoes and dyed them with RIT dye..Accenting was done in black soft fabric paint. The wig was a simple dark brown wig that I cut short and sprayed to give it a bit more volume. I opted to go without the jacket since the convention promised to be a warm one and Kirika doesn't wear it the entire time.

Likes: I love how comfortable the costume is, and I like how my shoes turned out.

Dislikes: The costume is very quickly made and the skirt doesn't sit the way I'd like it to on my hips. I also didn't like that un-learned people kept mistaking me for Jill Valentine!
