Gabriel |

Character Name: Gabriel Source: Constantine (2005) Total Cost: 300 USD Time Consumed: 60+ hours Why I made it: Ever since the movie Constantine came out people had been saying "OMG JENN! There's this character in Constantine who looks EXACTLY like you!" just like that. Or "OMG Have you seen Constantine??? You look just like Gabriel!". Now I am one who can take a hint. So when I finally did get to see the movie (and this was only once it had been released on DVD), I was amazed and a bit frightened by the resemblance. It wasn't perfect, but it was certainly uncanny. Gabriel's character was definitely one that I liked too. It was awesome and a bit smarmy but intelligent nonetheless. Like Claudia from Silent Hill 3. How I made it: This costume has the distinction of having my first human hair wig which I styled myself with gel and sponge rollers. The bracelets were made from frosted plastic folder covers (clever huh?) which had paper with the proper (mostly) words on them.Ten bracelets in all. The top was made of the same thick spandex as my Sailor Uranus fuku, with a beige ribbon added as well as lacing on the shoulder. The bit over it was made from a sports bra. The pants were plain stretch pants but over those were the chaps. These were made by cutting the form out of regular white pants and then binding the edges with twill tape. I added zippers to the inside of each leg and then put lacing on the backs from knee to ankle. I also have lacing on the front. It was a somewhat difficult costume to make due to the very few shots of Gabriel in the movie, but in all I think I managed pretty well. The Wings themselves were made in a similar manner as my Rinoa wings.. but Bigger. There is a pound of the large rounded feathers on there and maybe an eighth of a pound of the flats. Hopefully I can get some more upgrades done for next year’s Dragon*Con! Likes: I loved speaking in my Gabriel voice and telling people they were going to hell. As for the costume itself I love the chaps. I also love the wings now that I’ve created them. I hope to make them better for next year. This is one of those costumes that – since I only do it once a year – I don’t get tired of. Dislikes: I would like to at some point make actual wings for this costume. |
