Character Name: Melissa Pearce Variation: Eve - First Mutation Source: Parasite Eve Total Cost: 55 USD Time Consumed: 6 hours Why I made it: Melissa is one of the few costumes that is a remake of an old and rather poorly made costume of mine. I decided to make this costume mainly to go with Pixiekitty’s Aya Brea she had created the year before. I always liked Melissa’s character and had previously (as I mentioned before) cosplayed her only with some rather poor fabric choices. This time around I decided to go with my original first choice for fabrics – velveteen. I also wanted to improve upon my previous costume by doing Eve's first
mutation. The green eyes I think really add to Melissa's appearance
and the interestingness of the costume! How I made it: The original Melissa I created had been constructed of the vile crushed penne velour (a fabric I now refuse to use for anything excepting perhaps tea cozies). This time around I was able to acquire some red velveteen – the fabric I had long dreamed of making the Melissa dress from. The dress itself was draped on myself thus making a simple pattern, bodice was loose and lined and the skirt was made with three panels and gathered at the top. The sash cinches the waist and the square neckline had lace sewn around it. All in all it was a simple design. I had some difficulty with the fit as it was a draped pattern, but in the end it fit more or less. The wig had been previously purchased for this very costume, and the
contacts were purchased at the convention. Melissa’s ample cleavage
was simulated by using all manner of push up and enhancement devices.
^_^. Likes: I love this wig, it turned out beautifully for Melissa. That would have to be my favourite part. The wig and the contacts. Dislikes: I dislike the way the sash doesn’t manage to cover the seam where the bodice attatches to the skirt all the time.
