Character Name: The Doctor

Version: lady version of #6

Source: Doctor Who

Total Cost: 250 USD

Time Consumed: 30-60 hours maybe?

Why I made it: Doctor Who is one of my favourite shows. I really was never too into it before this year, but somehow at Dragon Con I sort of faded into loving it. Partly I think it was the awesome conversations I had with a really cool Time Lady ..er cosplayer ^_^ Who was doing a lady version of the 4th Doctor. She inspired me to do a lady Doctor of my own.. and of course I couldn’t do an easy one.. nooo. So With much thought, I decided the most hideously glorious outfit would be.. Doctor Number Six. Colin Baker’s outfit. All of those crazy colours mixing to make a fabulous coat! Who could resist?

How I made it:. I think the most difficult part of making this costume was the coat. I decided to go all-out and make the thing from wool. So then came the difficult task of getting all the right colours of wool. I probably spent over 200 on just the materials for the coat and spats. I wanted to get the colours as closely as I could so that they wouldn’t clash. I ended up even colouring in certain lines on the orange plaid so they would be black and not blue.. by hand.. with a dye pen. The pockets are HUGE and lined with wool so as to be nice and warm.

The skirt of course was my own design. I wanted to do a high waisted skirt with a fishtail hem and green buttons. I also chose to lengthen the spats to knee length and give them a scalloped edge. They were my first pair of spats. I love them. They’re lined with green. The vest was a bear to sew because the fabric had metallic pieces that wanted to shrink when I ironed it. The plaid on the outside is something I just had lying around, and the inside is lined with orange. The pockets of course work so I could put my fob watch in. For the fob of my watch I used a key that looked like the current (9th and 10th) Doctor’s TARDIS key. The shirt of course has hand embroidered question marks on it, and I used my wig from Gabriel for the hair.

I sort of did a mixing of a lot of the doctors, so I had a current sonic screwdriver.. mostly cause 6 never had one, and I wanted one. I also carried Jelly Babies in my pocket and a banana as I was going to a party.

Likes: I love the coat, I actually wear this as an everyday coat occasionally!

Dislikes: I wish the outfit were a bit more figure flattering. It generally looks pretty dowdy.
