Character Name: Addie Clark

Version: Ghost

Source: Bizenghast

Total Cost: 150 USD

Time Consumed: 20 hours-ish

Why I made it: Addie Clark looked like an interesting challenge from the moment I took a look at her. That wasn’t what decided me to do the costume though. Really it was a spur of the moment need for a good challenge and a brand new costume to wear to Katsucon. Once my mind starts working, no power in the ‘verse can stop it.. and that’s just what happened.
I love Bizenghast, probably a lot more than plenty of other series that I love.. partly cause the story is so awesome, partly cause the art is captivating.. and a lot cause the designs are so unique. Thus .. I give you Addie Clark’s Ghost.

How I made it:. This costume was pretty simple as far as costumes go, the base blouse and skirt were modified easily from two Edwardian style patterns. Some of the changes I made were to make the waist on the skirt a bit higher, and to give the skirt an underlining. I also decided to use three hooks as closure instead of a zipper. The blouse’ sleeves and collar have been entirely changed, as well as the ruff being added.

Accessories were rather difficult to find for this one, as Addie’s cameo brooch faces her right hand.. most cameos of that style tend to face the left hand. I found one after about three days of searching e-bay. Also the wig was a challenge because it needed to be in an Edwardian style bun. I decided to go with a Gibson girl style wig from Wildcat Wigs in a dark brown. This worked nicely and was quite easy to make unruly looking by taking a few extra wisps out. The boots of course were my Elphaba boots which have come in very handy lately.

The weathering mostly consisted of setting fire to the costume. Do not try this unless you know what you’re doing! My friend Twilight Frost and I sat outside with a bucket of water and two candles, and lit up and singed parts of the blouse and skirt.. we did this lightly to mostly give the outfit smoke damage. Then tea was applied in spots to the blouse.
The ribs were made with Wonderflex and then gesso and paint were applied. Ribs were then attatched to a black velvet piece which fit around my chest so as to add to the depth look.

The makeup was one of my favorite parts, I used MAC paints Blackground and Flammable around my eyes, blending them nicely. Then I added a bit of Crystal Avalanche shadow for highlights near the browbone, and some Cranberry shadow to add to the sunken effect. Purple Haze completed the bruised eye look. Next, I took some liquid latex and applied it to various parts of my face. Mostly to my cheek and the side of my nose (to cover up my nose ring). Then I puffed up the latex to make it look like burns, and added some Flammable paint and Carbon shadows to give a sooty burned look.

Likes: I love the fact that the ribs are dimensional.

Dislikes: I dislike the corseting. It gets a bit painful after a while.
